What is a drone ground school?

It is a requirement by the CAA to complete your drone ground school and pass a theory examination by a certified NQE such as Aerial Motion Pictures to be recommended for your PfCO.

The CAA syllabus covers a number of modules that are taught on both our ICARUS STANDARD and ICARUS PRO drone training courses by the top SUAS pilots in the country. We have also added the additional module 'UK Low Flying System & Collision Effects' thanks Matt Williams experience in Military Aviation.

What will I be taught during my ground school?

These modules are taught across 2 consecutive days during your ground school.

  • Air Law

  • Principles of Flight (PoF)

  • Metereology

  • Airspace and Operating Principles

  • Operations Manual & Risk Assessment

  • Human Factors

  • Operator Responsibilities & Airmanship

  • Navigation

  • Flight Planning

  • Li-Po Batteries

  • UK Low Flying System & Collision Effects ***UNIQUE TO ICARUS***

You will then be required to complete a closed book multiple choice examination.

What do I need to do after completing my ground school?

On successful completion of your drone ground school, you will then be required to complete an Operations Manual and book in with Aerial Motion Pictures for your Operations Evaluation (or more commonly known as your Flight Test).
