    Drone Flight Categories

Under the NEW DRONE REGULATIONS which were introduced in the UK on the 31st December 2020, there are now 3 different categories which drone flying can fall into.

Knowing which category you'll be flying your drone in is really important and depends on the level of risk involved with each flight... Essentially, it's broken down into the weight of your drone and how far you'll be staying away from people who aren't involved in your flying.

The heavier the drone & the closer you want to get to 'uninvolved' people, the higher the risk... So, the more rigorous your training and qualifications need to be!

If you're flying a small drone far away from people - you might not need any qualifications at all... Want to get closer to people or fly something heavier or more complex? Then you may need a Certificate or an Operational Authorisation from the CAA.

You can find more detail on the categories below but if you have any questions just give the team a shout!

Fly small drones in the 'Open Category'

What is the CAA A2 C of C Certification?

The A2 C of C (A2 Certificate of Competency) is a new drone qualification that was introduced on the 31st December 2020 which allows people to fly small drones 'close to people' and under the new regulations, you can operate a drone commercially for the first time without needing to spend ££££'s on training and CAA Authorisation!

The new A2 subcategory will allow you to ‘fly closer to people’ if you hold an A2 Certificate of Competency (A2 CofC) and are flying either a C2 class aircraft or if your drone weighs less than 2Kg but more than 250g; so it's the perfect qualification if you're flying drones like those in the DJI Mavic Series (Mavic 1, 2 or 3) and the Parrot Anafi.

You'll need to do an A2 C of C Training Course and Theory Examination with a CAA Approved Drone Training school like UAVHub to be able to get your A2 Certificate and take advantage of the amazing opportunities this new system offers for Drone Pilots who fly small drones!

    Designed by Aviators

Bringing the highest standards of Military Flying Training to the Small Unmanned Aircraft Industry

The UAVHub drone training courses have been developed by Aviators who have not only flown in the unmanned ‘drone’ sector but who have taught people to fly manned aircraft all over the world at the very highest levels.

Particularly with recent events in mind, this deep understanding of how both can work safely together is an important message to pass on, and we take great pride in the fact that our Students are so well prepared that many go on to operate within controlled airspace, in and around very busy Airports within weeks of gaining their certificate and authorisation; safely, legally and confidently.

Ex-Royal Air Force Helicopter Instructor and Combat Veteran, Matt Williams (Mr MPW) designed the original version of the UAVHub drone course in 2015 and has flown full-sized Helicopters and Drones all over the world for the Military, Film and TV.

The UAVHub team is supported by a multitude of Flight Instructors and Examiners who regularly fly on Film and TV sets as well as being experts in the field of Industrial Inspections.
